I started coming up with this verse when I was going through some issues with a couple of people at work. I really needed to vent and this verse was really an outlet for that. There's not much more to say about it than haters are going to hate, but you can't let them bring you down. In the end, I came out well on the other side and left their negativity behind me.
Right around the same time as I started writing this verse, Locksmith had put out a challenge on Instagram (something he does periodically) for the song Rederick from his recently released album Ali.
His lyrics resonated with the subject matter I had on my mind, some parts of his flow were just delicious, I appreciated the alliteration and the beat had a nice bounce to it. So it was a no brainer to use this song. My description of the original song by Locksmit is limited because I don't think I can do it justice, so just listen to it. Rederick is a lyrical OG and this song is included in the oeuvre of his lyrical masterpieces. Gimme a sec from this same album is particularly noteworthy, as is Nobody from his previous album and go check out his slot on Shade 45 with Kay Slay.
I wrote about half the verse in one sitting and then the other half took a few sittings to complete. Writing really is hard if you don't keep up with the habit of it. The latter half of this verse took longer than I planned. All of the ideas were there but I couldn't quite put them together. Overall, I'm happy with getting it done, but some of the sentences and rhymes feel messy. Also, when I recorded it, I just wanted to get it down, so some of the delivery is off. But, it captures everything I needed to convey and I'm ok that its not perfect, it doesn't have to be.
