The latest FRAAP instalment is a verse that I did as a guest verse in a friend's amaaazing band, Snooty Bobs. It was also the last verse I wrote for any music that was recorded or performed. This verse came ready made with a theme, I loved the topic of the song and had a real affinity with the lyrics, so I got some ideas very quickly.
As usual though it took me a while to put them together into a verse (I also got distracted by working on a remix for the original song). I seem to work well under pressure because it took the deadline of having to record the next day for me to complete the verse.
I had a bottle of red wine and a word map of my ideas and waa-la, a verse was born. It's a pretty short verse, 12 bars instead of the usual 16, because that was the gap the guys had for it in the song, but I like to think its short and sweet.
I rocked up the next day with a bit of a hangover and I believe, if I recall correctly, I recorded it in pretty much one or two takes. I still really love this song and love that its still on Spotify.
GOSSIP
The devil he lives in the mundane
Chinese whispers faster than a runaway train
The truth lies only in the detail
Retail tales of debauchery for sale
Living in the cult of celebrity
Gossip entertainment is the source of some levity
From the daily humdrum of a real life
Call it truth but without any insight
Put stars in the eyes of the masses, everyone's a wannabe with backstage passes
Gossip the commodity, while fame is an asset
Witness the creation of the new modern masses.
