The latest installment in the FRAAPs section is a song that features one of my own favourite verses. The very first verse is one of my reeaaally early raps that never went anywhere. When I was in university and fell in with a crew of male rappers, it was my first foray into sharing my secret bedroom habit publicly. This verse was recorded on a song which had a sample from Disney's Fantasia on it, it was actually a really amazing beat. I never really loved the verse though because the guys always made me feel like it was not good enough. I think there was too much testosterone and "wanna be rapper" swagger going on, and back then I was young and gave too many fucks.
Years later, in my last band, the verse just seemed to fit on this new song we were working on, which ended up being titled "The Chillr" (I don't remember where that title came from). The last two lines of the first verse were written for The Chillr with the last line running directly into the melodic chorus written by my band mate. It needed a second verse and as I'm very much a fan of pairing things (matching pairs, opposing pairs, similar pairs...whatever), and the first verse had a literary theme, I wanted the 2nd verse to have some sort of similar theme running through it.
I settled on a mathematical theme, thinking of the first verse as an English lesson in love and the second verse as a Maths lesson in love. The 2nd verse is actually the verse that is one of my faves because I like my flow on it...and I think its a bit clever innit ;) I had all the component ideas for the verse very quickly, but it took the pressure of having to record it to put the verse together, pretty much doing it the night before the recording. During the recording, I had to read the 2nd verse as I'd not yet memorised all of it.
This version of the song was never released as I left the band before we got a chance to, it was subsequently released with an amazing melodic verse instead and you can find it on the interwebs.
In my head I've always thought of this song as The Chillr (English & Maths edit) but when I came to write this blog, I had to think about what I would really like its title to be instead.
Your love in words & numbers
Verse 1
I love it when you tell a tale on my body
Just like a book that you studied
In detail, so we can't fail
We're not in a hurry
At the exposition of the story
Is the prologue
Where you start to show me love
Is the revelation of the plot
I'm the narrator and only I can tell you when to stop
Me and you are two characters in a play of four chapters
We're shattered, we laugh and then maybe after you could...waste...
Chorus x2 (written by band mate)
...waste your time with me
your time, (then maybe after you could)
your ...
waste your time with me
your time... (then maybe after you could)
your...
Verse 2
This feeling builds exponentially
As we explore we eventually
Realise our potential, we...
Sensually, essentially
Simplify a complex equation
Refine a convex relation
Define the means to elation
Inside there can be no evasion
Don't be afraid to be brazen
Desire is your only notation
Needed to resolve your temptation
1. In our cartesian romance
2. I can be the x to your y
3. In absolute symmetry we dance
5.The infinite coefficient, love, will never die
8.
Chorus.
